New England Weavers' Seminar: Shows and Exhibits
Gallery Show & Fashion Show
The Gallery and Fashion Shows are juried exhibits in which weavers of member guilds show their work; entrants do not have to attend NEWS to participate. Weavers may enter three pieces in each show. All work must be at least 75% handwoven and completed since NEWS 2023. All pieces are judged, and ribbons, prizes, and points toward Weaver of Distinction are awarded. Each entry receives constructive comments from the judges. A People's Choice Award is given, so be sure to cast your ballot.

TWINE Exhibit
TWINE is a professional organization made up of over 40 contemporary tapestry weavers. It’s an inclusive group open to all levels of experience. Often times when we talk about tapestry weaving the first image that comes to mind is a medieval weaving with unicorns, hanging on a castle wall. We want to dispel this thinking and treat the viewer to contemporary body of work using the same techniques of weavers from the past. The design process for making a tapestry takes quite a bit of planning and each artist has their own approach, using collage, painting, geometric patterns and original imagery. Included in the exhibit will be a number of cartoons (designs by a number of weavers) in tandem with their tapestries. We see cartoons as maps behind a nished tapestry and interesting art pieces on their own. Our goal is to inspire and expand ones thinking of what a tapestry is.

Each of the ten member guilds of NEWS as well as other weaving collaboratives will display their members' creations. The subjects are often the result of projects or study groups from the past two years.
The Nashoba Valley Weavers' Guild invites all NEWS member guilds to display their members' work in the Table Show at NEWS 2023. Each guild will have one table for display. Space permitting, interested groups who are not members of NEWS may participate for a fee of $25.00. Please encourage your members to participate!
