New England Weavers' Seminar:  Scholarships

The work/study grant is available to members in good standing with the sponsoring guilds of NEWS. The objective of the scholarship is to enable attendance at NEWS for recipients who otherwise might be unable to attend due to financial considerations. The obligation of the recipient is to provide 2 hours of volunteer time to sit one of the shows during the conference. Volunteer signup form is available on the NEWS website.  Additionally we ask that you write up a short piece for publication in the NEWSletter about your experience.

Priority is given to first-time grant recipients. You will receive notification on the status of your request before registration opens on February 2, 2025. The application will remain open as long as funds remain in the Scholarship account and decisions will be communicated as quickly as possible after that date. The grant will be credited to you as a coupon code you will use during your online registration. Grants not used by May 1 will be revoked and made available to other attendees.

How to Apply

Two letters of recommendation, including one from your Guild chairperson or president, must be forwarded to the Scholarship Chair after she contacts you with confirmation that your application was received.

Please note that Tuition Grants do not include Workshop materials fees, travel expenses, or conference room and board.

Sharing Your Workshop Experience

Following NEWS, Tuition Grant recipients will be asked to prepare a brief write up of their workshop experiences - inspiration to share with other weavers, particular skills or insight gained from the Workshop, plus one or more digital snapshots of your project.  We can provide editorial suggestions for your recap.  This information will be formatted for the NEWSLetter and shared with the NEWS community through quarterly publications in 2025 and 2026.
