On-Campus Housing
Check-out time on Sunday is noon.
Swipe cards will be issued to all participants and must be returned at the end of the conference. There will be a $40.00 charge for each swipe card not returned within 24 hours of check out.
Two keys will be issued to all overnight participants and must be returned upon departure. There is a $225.00 charge for each key that is not returned.
Upon departure, please strip your bed, bring linens to the lobby, and leave them in the bins.
Computer Usage and Wifi
Wireless internet access points are available in most locations across campus, including residence halls. To connect a wireless computer or other mobile device for the first time, Westfield State University staff will provide you with a unique Username and Password upon check in. All residence hall rooms have data jacks; bring an ethernet cable as back-up.
Registration
All registration throughout the conference will take place in Wilson Hall, which can be entered through the Nettie Stevens Center from the parking lot. The area will include a bulletin board for updated information about the conference.
Loom Drop-off
All floor and table looms, sewing machines, and other equipment can be taken directly to their respective classrooms and remain there until participants depart.
Gathering Place
Looking for a place to hang out, to meet with your friends, to relax between classes? Drop by the Wilson Cafe on the first floor of Wilson Hall during the day. Lounges are also available on all floors in the New Residence Hall.
Campus Meals
Advance purchase of meals is recommended, but on-site purchase will be available.
There are no other meal options on campus.
Tuesday dinner - Sunday lunch:
Breakfast 7:00 am - 9:00 am
Lunch 11:30 am - 1:30 pm
Dinner 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
All meals will be served cafeteria style in the dining hall. Gluten-free and vegetarian options will be available at every meal.
Comfort
Lectures, shows, and workshops will be held in air-conditioned spaces on campus. You are encouraged to bring a sweater if you are inclined to be cold.
Emergency Information
The University Police office is staffed 24/7 and is located at the White House near the front of campus. They can be reached by calling (413) 572-5262
Please use this phone number if you are locked out of your room. Tell dispatch the building (New Hall), room number, and you are a member of a summer group.
In case of ANY emergency (including fire or medical) please call University Police. You can also call 911, however, that will first direct you to Westfield Town Police before being sent over to University police and can delay a response.
A summer student employee will be at the front desk of the Residence Hall for any general questions or non-emergency concerns from 6pm – 11pm each day and will be able to be reached by phone throughout the entirety of the program. This phone number will be posted around the building and will be given out upon arrival.
Liability
NEWS and NEWS 2025 Trustees do not carry insurance on persons at or property brought to the conference. If insurance is desired, the individual must provide it.
