Sign up promptly as classes tend to fill quickly. Our registration system accepts Visa, Mastercard, and Paypal.
The online system has been changed since 2017. You no longer have to select each session of a multi-session class individually. It is highly recommended that you use the Workshops at a Glance grid to confirm that you are not selecting two workshops that overlap.
Students in multi-day workshops must be at least 16 years old.
All shows, exhibits, evening programs, and vendors are open to the general public during the conference. No workshop registration is required.
You can register for workshops, the tour, dormitory housing, and a daily meal plan for the dormitory cafeteria through our registration system. There is a $20 registration fee for workshop students who are not members of one of the NEWS member guilds.
Vendors, teaching assistants, spouses, volunteers, and NEWS officers and trustees may register for housing or meals without signing up for workshops. You may also register to obtain an ID badge, even if you are not purchasing housing or meals.
Confirmation of receipt of your registration form and all other communications, including class assignments, will be sent by email.
Changing Your Registration
Once you have completed your registration through to payment, you can contact the Seminar Registrar by email, using the Contact Form, to modify your workshop, tour, housing, and meal selections as desired, subject to availability, individual class restrictions, and our deadlines to provide Smith College with final meal and housing numbers, Modifications may require additional payment.
Registration closes at 5:00 pm on Friday, July 5, 2019, and no changes of any kind can be made after that date.
The registrar must be notified directly by email if you wish to cancel your entire registration. On or before May 15, 2019, there will be a charge of 10% of your registration total, not to exceed $50. After May 15, 2019, refunds will be determined by the Executive Board based on the circumstances of the cancellation. After June 21, 2019, no refunds will be issued for housing and meal costs.
If your first choice class is full when you are registering, we recommend registering for your second choice class and then adding your name to the wait list for the preferred class, using the form on the registration page. Open slots are offered on a first come, first serve basis.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES are you to contact an instructor for assistance getting into a class which has already filled.
Mail In Registration
Mail-in registration is available, but highly discouraged. Many popular workshops may fill online before manual registrations are entered. If you do choose to send a mail-in form, please be sure to select second and third choices for your class sessions. Mail-in registrations must be accompanied by a check or money order in U.S. funds.
Workshops are offered in half-day (3 hour) sessions. Workshop length ranges from one to six sessions. Each session is $70.
The city of Northampton has a mandated dye disposal fee. We have added the per-student pro-rated amount to the cost of the two dyeing classes, J1: Dyeing: Color Wheels & Gradations ($40) and G1: Painted Warps ($20).
The other exception to the per-session change for workshops is the Beginning Weaving class, which begins Thursday morning, July 11, 2019, and ends at lunchtime on Sunday, July 14, 2019. Looms will be provided and students will be able to attend all lectures, shows, and events. The Beginning Weaving class costs $300.
The Thursday tour is $60, which includes lunch.
Dormitory housing is available from Tuesday night through Saturday night for $40 per night.
Dormitory cafeteria meals are available from Thursday breakfast through Sunday lunch. You may select any day or combination of days, but partial days other than Thursday (all day or dinner only) and Sunday (breakfast and lunch only) are not available.
On Site Registration
On-site registration begins on Thursday, July 11, 2019, at 7:30 am in the Smith College Campus Center. You will not be able to register for workshops requiring preparation in advance, such as warping a loom. Most of the available classes will be half-day sessions. Only checks or cash will be accepted as payment.
